CANDYLAND Lemon Challenge Contestant Empowers Entrepreneurs on National Lemonade Day One Year Later

Master baker partners with No Kid Hungry, Kid Baking Championship contestant Michael Platt and With Love Lemonade to give back in celebration of the owner’s successful bakery’s one year anniversary on Capitol Hill

· Press release

WASHINGTON (April 14, 2022) - My Cake Theory celebrates its one-year anniversary on National Lemonade Day promoting women-owned businesses and youth entrepreneurship on May 1.

Originally seen on CANDYLAND in 2020, Tiffany Lightfoot and her team faced an unexpected elimination from the show after losing a challenge that required the use of lemons.  Today, Lightfoot shares what to do when ‘life throws you lemons’ as she celebrates the one-year anniversary of her bakery on Capitol Hill. The milestone also highlights kid entrepreneur and Food Network’s Michael Platt alongside With Love Lemonade, Changa Ormond who will showcase her lemonade stand in front of the establishment. Collectively, they will raise money to donate $1 of a custom cupcake to No Kid Hungry.

“This one-year anniversary is very special for us because we’ve been faced with many challenges. But I want to show people that obstacles do not mean defeat and failing forward is just a part of the journey,” said owner Lightfoot.

According to National Today, the concept for Lemonade Day was created when founder Michael Holthouse’s daughter, Lissa, wanted to add a turtle to her pet collection. With so many pets already in the house, Michael said no.  Dedicated and determined, Lissa decided she would open a lemonade stand to raise money to buy her own turtle, and asked her dad for help.  This gave Holthouse the inspiration for a National Lemonade Day Campaign.  He wanted to empower more children to learn business skills, responsibility, financial literacy, goal setting, and teamwork, just like Lissa.

Lightfoot will feature a variety of lemon-flavored cupcakes to commemorate this milestone along with other festive activities in the Eastern Market 7th Street Corridor. Families and My Cake Theory Theorists are encouraged to stop by the bakery located at 325 7th St SE Washington, DC from noon to 4 pm.
